Within nature, communities, groups, and colonies are present throughout the world. The work is generally inspired by my look into microscopic and macroscopic groups across time and through generations. Usually working with clay, ink, paper or other natural materials, I am responding to those groups observed and experienced in nature as well as the communities we are a part of as humans. Over time events change a community; anomalies happen and alter the state of being among the individuals. Some ceramic works represent large groups with more diversity while others represent smaller conglomerates that have a closer relationship and are more unified.

 

The connection made between individuals across all communities whether biological or my own works reveal changes that show the perpetual cycle that exists in all colonies. Through relationships among group members, connections are revealed that define the characteristics of the group. This inevitably gives these conglomerates an identity and through this I hope the viewer gains an understanding of their own community, group, or colony that they have experienced and what impact they may have on it, knowingly or not.
